How do I link Facebook reviews?

By Zyff

Short answer

Your Facebook reviews live at facebook.com/<your-page>/reviews, and that URL is what you link to when you want visitors to read or leave one. To show the recommendations on your own site instead of sending people away, embed them: paste your page address into a Facebook reviews widget, choose a layout, and paste the resulting code into your page.

Reviews have to be switched on in your Page settings and the Page has to be public. If the reviews tab is missing, that setting is almost always the reason.

Finding your reviews URL

Open your Page, look at the address bar, and append /reviews to it. If your Page has a username the result is readable — facebook.com/yourbusiness/reviews. If it does not, you will see a numeric id instead, which works identically but is worth replacing with a username in your Page settings before you put it in print.

That URL is the right destination for a 'Leave us a review' button. It is the wrong thing to rely on for social proof, because it takes the visitor off your site at exactly the moment they were deciding.

Why your reviews tab might not exist

Three causes account for nearly all of it. Reviews are switched off in Settings → Privacy → Page and Tagging. The Page is a personal profile rather than a business Page, which has no reviews feature. Or the Page category does not support recommendations — Facebook enables them for local businesses and services, not for every category.

Why you see a percentage instead of stars

Facebook retired star ratings in 2018 and replaced them with a yes-or-no recommendation. Pages that had a numeric rating before then may still show one; Pages that did not will show the share of people who recommend the business instead.

This is worth knowing when comparing widgets. Any tool that renders five gold stars for a Page whose rating Facebook does not publish has generated that number itself, which is a fabricated rating on your website with your name on it.

Embedding them instead of linking

Linking sends the reader to Facebook. Embedding brings the recommendations to the page they are already reading, which is where the decision is being made. A widget builder needs only the public page address — there is no Facebook app to register, no developer account and no access token to keep alive.

Each card keeps the reviewer's name and a link back to the original, which is not a setting you can switch off. Republishing someone's words without saying who wrote them or where they came from is not something a widget should let you do.

All of these have the same answer, so they share this page rather than each getting a near-identical one of their own.
