How do I resize an image to exact pixel dimensions?
Enter both a width and a height, then uncheck Lock aspect ratio so the two numbers are treated as an exact canvas. Choose Crop to fill to trim whatever overflows, or Fit with padding to keep the whole picture inside the box. The output readout confirms the size before you run it.
How do I resize an image without stretching or distorting it?
Leave Lock aspect ratio checked and set only one edge; the other is calculated for you so the proportions stay exact. If you need a precise box in both directions, use Crop to fill or Fit with padding instead of Stretch to fill, which is the one mode that ignores aspect ratio.
Can I resize an image for Instagram, YouTube or LinkedIn?
Yes. The preset menu holds 29 sizes grouped into social, screen and print, including Instagram post, portrait and story, TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and YouTube thumbnails and channel art. Picking one fills in both edges and switches to an exact-canvas crop.
Does resizing an image reduce its quality?
Scaling down costs a little detail but rarely anything you can see, while scaling up always loses quality. Downscaling resamples with a Lanczos 3 filter, which holds edges about as well as any downscaler, and Sharpen after resize firms up a result that looks soft. Enlarging is different in kind: no filter can invent detail that was never captured, so anything past 100% gets blurry. Scaling up cannot invent detail that was never captured, so enlarging past 100% gets blurry whichever filter you choose.
How do I crop an image to a size instead of resizing it?
Set both edges, unlock the aspect ratio, and choose Crop to fill. Then pick where the crop is taken from: any of nine edges and corners, or one of two automatic modes that aim at the main subject or at the area holding the most detail.
What are the size limits for resizing an image?
Uploads are capped at 25 MB. Output is capped at 10,000 px on either edge and 40 megapixels in total, and percentage mode accepts 1% to 500%. Anything past those limits is refused with a message that tells you which number to change.
Will resizing a PNG keep its transparency?
Yes. PNG, WebP and AVIF output all preserve the alpha channel, and Fit with padding can pad with transparency instead of a color. JPEG has no alpha, so transparent areas are flattened onto the padding color you pick rather than turning black.
Can I resize a photo for printing or for a passport photo?
Yes. The print group carries 300 DPI sizes for 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10 inch prints plus A4 and A5, and a 600x600 px passport size for a 2x2 inch photo. Choose one and both dimensions are filled in, so you only have to decide how the crop sits.
How do I resize an image for a profile picture?
Type the same number into width and height — 400x400 px suits almost every profile picture, 800x800 px if you want room to spare — then uncheck Lock aspect ratio and choose Crop to fill so the square is filled edge to edge. Pick the automatic crop mode that targets the main subject and the frame centers on the face instead of the middle of the photo. Export PNG or JPEG; every platform accepts both.
